What was the sport you did in adolescence? For many, it was something affiliated with their school or a local team. For me, it was competitive figure skating. Yes, even in hot, sunny Florida.
I skated for about 11 years, quitting during college. But the love and muscle memory is all still there.
Fast forward to 2020. I was a year postpartum, and a few months post bowel resection (Crohn's disease... we'll save that story for another time.) I was craving the feeling of being back on the ice. But with the pandemic, it wasn't a real possibility.
So I purchased my first pair of roller skates. And WOW was I in love. It was the feeling of flying that I so cherished with skating that was immediately realized again.
Of course, those roller skates needed a leash to easily cart them from here to there.
Supplies
- Size F (3.75mm) crochet hook
- 1 skein cotton yarn (I used Sugar n' Cream Lily Cotton in Crown Jewels Ombre for this one)
- Yarn needle

This is a great beginner project, teaching you to hold tension, count stitches, and practice customization. You can choose to make this leash shorter or longer just by decreasing the initial chain in the beginning.
Instructions
Begin: Chain 221
- Starting in the second stitch from the hook, sc in every stitch across. At the end of the row, turn the project over, ch 1
- Sc in every stitch across, turn, ch 1
- Sc in every stitch across, ch 1, tie off.
- You will now have a long leash with no loops at the end. Take one end of your leash, fold it over to create a loop that's about 3 inches long. Using your yarn and a yarn needle, stitch that loop to your leash. Knot and tie off.
- Do the same on the other side, ensuring to stitch on the same side of the leash.
- Loop the leash through your new loops so you have 2 adjustable larger loops to hook onto your skates.
And there you have it!
Place your loops just behind the front wheels and tighten to secure!
